This year I've learned a lot about game design. From learning about the different roles on a production team, to knowing the process which a game is developed. I've learned how to create advanced 3D models using Adobe Fuse. But the newest thing I've learned how to do is use Adobe Premiere to create videos. However this year I made a 3D game with Unity, which is on my website. The lessons that had the biggest impact was the video and audio aspects of the year because if I got into the game industry it would probably be in the audio field. I think the career practices should be removed from AGAD but not ignored just moved to a lower class so it doesn't hold up the class at the start of the year. The course can be improved by starting unity earlier so we are not in a rush. This course has taught me how to be self motivated in the last quarter because there was no due dates.

My game is still a work in progress. I finally got the Helicopter to move. However I am still trying to get the helicopter to rotate when the player moves the mouse. After a week long struggle I got the helicopter able to move up and down with the mouse scroll wheel. I ran into a error where the Helicopter would start rotating on its own and then you loose control of the aircraft.
So I have now created a 2player Tank classic fight game following a tutorial from Unity. Let me just say that this was the most complicated game. From the controls of the two different tanks on the keyboard to being able to actually play the game. Also with the game is an unusual way to create the range of the shell you fire at the other tank. I found it difficult to code with the music and player sounds. But coding has always been my weak spot.
So in a summary I
So now that i have the basic game pitch. I have decided to add to it. The helicopter will take off from the base and have to find the soldiers. when the helicopter lands to rescue to the soldiers, they will run into the helicopter. However there will be a twist the helicopter will only be able to hold 3 passengers at a time, so the player will have to fly back to the base and let the soldiers unload from the helicopter before being able to take off again.
So the object of my game that I will be creating is a Search and Rescue military game. The player will pilot a helicopter and will fly around the map to pick up soldiers. The player Camera will be a 3rd person flyer. I'm thinking about putting a challenge mode where the player has to get all of the soldiers in a specific amount of time. I will be using the terrain I create from the tutorials as the environment for my game.

So now that I have finished the Space Shooter I've started a new tutorial that is a first personal shooter type game. Using Unity 3D I am following the tutorials. What I have noticed is that #1 the tutorials are longer. #2 Is that as compared to the Space shooter where I did not have to worry about all three dimensions for this game I have to. The game takes place in a bedroom. I am still in the first stages of getting into the tutorial. So right now I am just setting up the scene. Below is an image of my progress.
The one down side to me progressing with my skills in Unity is that the tutorials are getting harder and longer . They are also going into more depth. This is very frustrating because there are like 4 folders each with about 6, 5-30 minute videos. These are very hard to get done within a 50 minute class period as one can imagine. However like I said I am still moving through the tutorials slowly but surely. I still have like 3 whole other tutorials I have to do.
So about 2 months ago I swapped from using Monodevelop to using Visual Studios for coding. Let me just say it has been the best change for me in coding. For once the colors are not monochromatic.. no pun intended. So different things stand out more to me. This then helps me locate a problem in my code that write. It also has this auto-correct feature that fills in the endings and half of the words for me. This greatly minimizes the chance that I make simple errors. I further believe that this is why I'm able to move through following tutorials faster, because I am not missing simple errors.
Over the last two weeks I've been working on another Unity tutorial. This one is walking me through how to make a top down arcade style game. It reminds me of Galaga. However I it is way more complicated than the previous roll a ball tutorial. So much that I am still in section 1 of three one video 4 of 14. It is very detailed oriented. And I really am not a detail type of person when writing I prefer to give the big picture not one corner of the picture. Below is the progress of the game I'm at so far.
So I was having problems because I was using an older version of Unity. However I decided to switch from using MonoDevelop to VisualStudios. This will be very beneficial to me because it basically has spellcheck for coding which is useful for me because I always forget the small little details. This system if I start a bracket it automatically closes it and adds semi-colons. I feel like using this to code will not stress me out as much and give my teacher a break because I won't have to call him over as much as I had to in the past. So below is what Visual-Studios looks like.
